This week we have been learning to use our voice effectively. We have created success criteria we believe will help us when we come to present our persuasive speech.

WHY learn this?
We want to use our voice to engage our listeners when we performing a play.
We want to improve our public speaking ability

We want to clearly share our message/speech with an audience

This is what we are focusing on:

  • Speak clearly and loudly

  • Stop at full stops and pause at commas

  • Use expression by changing my speed and tone at times (? !)

  • Today different reading groups recorded themselves reading a play. Tomorrow they will learn to peer assess against the success criteria.

    Moment in Time

This week we have been learning about using a variety of different sentence beginnings. This makes our writing interesting to read.
I am proud of Zoe's writing. She has worked to improve her sentences. She stayed focused and is now using capital letters at the start of all her sentences.
I hope you enjoy reading her story!

    Welcome back! It's Term 2.

Room 6 has had a great start to the term. We are well into our maths and Literacy routines. Thank you to all the whanau who are supporting children with daily reading. It really does impact their reading ability in a positive way.

We have begun our Te Reo Maori language topic - Ko Wai Au? Who am I?

Expect your children to be asking you questions related to significant people and places.
Year 5 students will be learning a simple mihi and learning their pepeha.
Year 6 students, who I must say have impressed me with their ability to remember all of their mihi and their pepeha, are being extended.

They will be choosing and learning a whakatauki, learning to welcome visitors and how to ask and answer basic questions about themselves.

Here are a few children who have learned how to screencastify. They are working on building their Te Reo Maori vocabulary

Here is Mana learning her new kupu. Well done Mana
