Our Strep A nurses have not been at school since COVID. We know how serious Strep A is and how often children at KCS have been picked up as being positive for Strep A in the past. It is very important to take sore throats seriously as it can lead to rheumatic fever. Did you let your mum know you had a sore throat? Your aunty? You don't need to go to the doctors. You can get your throat checked in Kaikohe.
Welcome! We are a wonderful class of Year 7 and Year 8 students in Kaikohe Christian School. We are thrilled to begin sharing our learning with our whanau and the wider community. Please feel free to leave comments on our blog posts

Sports, Sports, Coding and up coming trips!
This term is super busy. Technology is still on every Wednesday and we have already been involved in five sports tournaments. The girl’s volleyball team was extraordinary, winning 3 out 4 games! The boy’s team was just as amazing, also winning 3 out of 4 games. Huge thanks to Komene for giving his time to our skills development and to Matekino for taking the players and Mr. Cook for his support.
We have also been involved in rippa (winning every game) and touch. Davalamayne and Kuini went to a Year 9-10 badminton tournament.
Our out of class activities are not all sports based. We have participated in a digital technologies curriculum too. The class learned to program using code blocks and text-based programming on micro:bit. We are blessed to have this free experience. It is an introduction to computer science and engineering. Ms Toi, who has been running a successful Coding Club, came along too.

How are our bodies created to fight off viruses and infections?
Last term the class learned about how the body's defense systems protect us and fight off sickness.
The students had the task of creating a model to help explain an aspect that they were interested in.
Here are some photos and a short description of some of the models.
Khody, Addison and Nathan created models of different viruses. A virus needs a host cell to survive and multiply. They are parasites and up to ten times smaller than bacteria cells. This is part of the reason why they are transmitted so easily and can be airborne.

Let the Challenges Begin!
This is written by Kuini and Taylah. I look forward to reading the rest of the reports. The learning focus this time around is 'variety is the spice of sentence life'.

I'm back...
Teaching in a Year 7 & 8 class is something new for me. However, I am excited about the challenge and the fact that I know most of my class already! Getting to know Khody, Chloe, Addison, Mikaere, TeAtaahua, Hawaiki and Nathan has been great. We're going to have a wonderful second half of 2020.
Technology has started. Here are a couple of photos of our first day.
